Chapter 1 The Magic City – Summary 2/2

With the help of Katherine, the only other person with knowledge of Melos’ illness, Zoana forms a party to seek out ingredients to create a potion and save the Grandmaster. After showing clear antagonism against the alchemist, Katherine herself is rejected to join by Zoana. Katherine backs off, not without showing deep distrust in Zoana and her magical art.
Zoana, being joined once again by Elle, end up forming a party with Auri the warrior and Sonette the musician, and march into the nearby Dark Forest, ready to gather a list of all the required ingredients to save the Grandmaster. A hooded shadow soon appears behind them following closely as they move through the forest. It isn’t until only the last ingredient in the list remains, that the party meets a giant rhinoceros beetle that stands in their way. During a tough battle that requires the party to work together, Zoana and the rest manage to extract from the beetle the last ingredient for the potion.
With all the needed ingredients at hand, Zoana performs a spell to create the potion. But the words chanted by Zoana and the nature of the spell put the rest of the party in alarm. The hooded figure that have been following them all this time, reveals to be Katherine, who looks shocked at the sight of Zoana’s magic. Zoana herself is hurt by the spell she just used, but the potion was correctly created. Katherine runs in panic, saying to herself that what she saw was a Dark Art, and that Zoana was definitely not to be trusted. Elle, Auri and Sonette meanwhile, help Zoana stand up and decide to escort her back into the city along with the potion.
The party walks slowly but happily, knowing the mission was a success. The Grandmaster is saved, but Zoana may still need to do more, to be fully accepted into the city.
